This year, every class are named after a class champion. Throughout the year the children will learn about their class champion and deliver a special Collective Worship all about what makes them special. By the end of the year the aim is that all of our children know about 5 diverse and amazing champions who make a difference to our world. 

Year One’s class champion for 2024 -2025 is Julie Andrews

Dame Julie Andrews was born in 1935 in England. Her family were very poor. Her mother and father were entertainers. She went to an Arts School where she learnt to sing and act.

From the age of 12 she started to swing and act on the radio and television. She was the youngest ever person at age 13 to perform for the King and Queen in 1948 at the Royal Variety Show. Julie has performed in many musicals on Broadway including My Fair Lady. In 1963 she became very famous when she played Mary Poppins. Then she went on to play Marid in The Sound of Music and the Queen in The Princess Diaries.

Julie has many achievements including a Golden Globe, Baftas and Grammy Awards. She was made a Dame by the Queen in 2000. Julie is an ambassador for Save the Children and UNICEF and continues to support these charities raising awareness for children who are in need around the world.
