Reception Class/Year 1 - Miss Ford
This year, every class are named after a class champion. Throughout the year the children will learn about their class champion and deliver a special Collective Worship all about what makes them special. By the end of the year the aim is that all of our children know about 5 diverse and amazing champions who make a difference to our world.
Reception’s class champion for 2024-2025 is Floella Benjamin.
Baroness Floella Benjamin was born 23rd September 1949 in Point-a-Pierre, Trinidad and Tobago. She is one of six siblings, with three brother and two sisters. When she was young her family decided to emigrate to Britain and Floella came across the seas to Great Britain in the Wind Rush.
She is an actress, singer, presenter, author and politician. She is know as a presenter of children's programmes such as Play School, Play Away, Jamboree and Fast Forward.
Dur8ing her lifetime Floella has won many awards for her commitment to Britain, schooling and charity work. In 2001, she was awarded an OBE for her services to broadcasting and in 2010, she was made a Baroness. She was the first actress to become a peer in the House of Lords and in her maiden speech, she spoke about the pride she has in her heritage and her work to protect and support the health and wellbeing of vulnerable children.
